I heard a quote once that I really like, "The best camera is the one you have with you." Truer words have never been spoken. I'm the first to admit that I'm a bit of a camera snob. This is not to say that I have a really fancy camera--I don't. Yes, it's an SLR, but it's seven years old, and compared to what's out there now, it's a dinosaur. But I do have some super sweet lenses, and a relatively trusty eye, which I suppose entitles me to a bit of snobbery.
The crappy thing, though, about my SLR camera is that it's BULKY! If I'm carrying my camera, with all of my lenses, an extra battery pack, and a flash, I'll bet my pack is upwards of 8-10 pounds. I can completely justify carrying this extra weight around if I'm traveling (I've sacrificed the feeling in my lower back to this cause), but I can't justify carrying that pack around every single day. Enter, the camera phone.
At first, I was reluctant as hell to use my camera phone (re: snobbery, see above). I thought to myself,"Meh! This is a piece of crap! What, two megapixles? Please. Don't waste my time." But you know what? Said camera phone slides oh-so-nicely into my pocket, and is with me, quite literally, at all times. In fact, it's sitting right next to me at this very moment, in my home office. "Hello, phone! So nice to see you. You're such a loyal friend." (I think it's smiling at me!)
This morning, I was inspired by a photo montage put together by my little friend, Luna. Luna is three, and is a budding photographer (my heart goes pitter-pat!). All of her shots are, obviously, taken from her short little point-of-view, and they're blurry as hell, because she is rarely still. But that's what I love about them--they're so pure! Those photos really got me thinking, "Holy mackrel, I've got a ton of photos on my iPhone. I should probably download them..." So I did. The result is what you see above.
I had nearly 900 photos stored on my mighty phone--nearly NINE HUNDRED! Can you believe it? (Fear not, I only used about 120 for my little video.) But what I absolutely LOVE about those 900 images is that they are so...genuine! Nothing posed. All spontaneous. A lot like life.
So thank you, Luna, for the inspiration. And thank you, Animoto, for making it so easy. Hmmm...what to photograph next?
