What I'm Reading...

  • Hal Niedzviecki: The Peep Diaries: How We're Learning to Love Watching Ourselves and Our Neighbors
If we have a home on the Web, death ceases to be absolute (or, only children love the attention)...
  • Laura I. Rendon: Sentipensante (Sensing/Thinking) Pedagogy: Educating for Wholeness, Social Justice, and Liberation
What if there were room in the academy for wholeness, introspection and spirituality? Laura I. Rendon suggests that there IS. In fact, there MUST be.
  • David Sedaris: When You are Engulfed in Flames
It's not that every essay is brilliant (which they are), but it's the little lines of his that sneak up on me and catch me off guard, causing me to laugh out loud when I'm in public places. Please, treat yourself to this book. And a cigarette, if you're so inclined.
  • Christian Lander: The Definitive Guide to Stuff White People Like
Includes film festivals, microbreweries, non-profits, and standing still at concerts. Funny, because it's eerily true!
  • Cary Tennis: Since You Asked
A collection of advice columns from Salon.com that is not only spot-on, but also literary. Tough love never sounded so elegant. This guy is my new hero.
  • Richard Louv: Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder
It's official: Kids need to play outside. (Really?) Beautifully written, with ideas to get whole families out of the house and into nature--where we belong.
  • Barry Lopez: Arctic Dreams
The Arctic is this planet's canary in a coal mine. We need to listen to its song.
  • Chet Raymo: Natural Prayers
Delicately written essays on the delicate, natural world. God can most definitely be found in the tiniest of things.
  • Segersten & Malterre: The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook (2nd ed.)
    Good food, good writing--good times!
  • David James Duncan: God Laughs and Plays
Because I really think (s)he does.

One-Line Bio

I'm a university professor who thinks her job is fun! (Imagine that...)

Biography

Even though I've lived in the Pacific Northwest for years (via Ohio and a short stint in North Carolina), I still marvel at how drop-dead GORGEOUS this place is. We've got it all--mountains, ocean, low humidity, and no mosquitos (well, not many, anyway). Every day's a good hair day (sort of ).
